Mr Vincent Yip is an highly-experienced Consultant Surgeon offering care for both benign conditions, including gallstones and biliary disease, as well as complex cancers which he treats through both open and minimally-invasive surgical techniques.

Biography

Vincent currently treats patients at The Princess Grace Hospital and The Harley Street Clinic in Marylebone as well as Royal London Hospital, where he established and now leads the Robotic HPB Programme. He has performed multiple complex HPB procedures using the Da Vinci Robot and is one of few Consultants in the UK experienced in offering comprehensive HPB resections using the robotic approach. 

He is also actively involved in his hospital’s multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT) for complex primary and metastatic liver tumour management and has performed in excess of 100 liver resections, both laparoscopic and open, with an focus on resections of colorectal liver metastases and hepatocellular carcinoma. 

As well as complex pancreatic and liver surgery, Vincent is a specialist in laparoscopic, robotic and open biliary surgery, managing both benign and malignant bile duct diseases. This includes bile duct exploration and reconstruction. Having worked across four specialist centres, including two major HPB centres, Vincent is experienced in performing both abdominal elective and emergency general surgery and has trained junior colleagues in a wide range of general surgical procedures. 

Vincent graduated from the University of Glasgow, after which he undertook his Doctor of Medicine on acute pancreatitis as a Scientific Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. His higher surgical training took place at Mersey Deanery in Liverpool where he was trained by imminent cancer specialist Professor John Neoptolemus in pancreatic surgery and Professor Graeme Poston in liver surgery. 

To further advance his HPB surgical skills, Vincent undertook an advanced Clinical Fellowship in HPB and Liver transplantation at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong and an advanced Clinical Fellowship in HPB Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London. 

He then joined Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust, where he practiced as a Consultant for three years. During this time he co-chaired the Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Team and was the Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumour Lead for the Neuroendocrine Tumour MDT in Merseyside, overseeing surgical management of patients suffering from rare neuroendocrine cancers. During his time in Liverpool, Vincent was instrumental in expanding the laparoscopic pancreas resectional service at the hospital. 

In 2018, Vincent joined the Royal London Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust in East London. Here he has successfully established a robotic HPB programme, where he has performed multiple complex minimally invasive surgeries. 

At the Royal London Hospital he established an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathway for patients undergoing liver and pancreas surgery that focuses on ensuring outstanding post-operative care. 

Vincent has written and published over 30 book chapters and high-impact research papers in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Surgical Oncology, Surgery Today, Lancet Oncology, the European Journal of Cancer and the International Journal of Surgery. He has also presented and lectured at a number of national and international events and conferences. His current research focuses on application of clinical databases and participating in surgical trials. 

Vincent lives in London with his wife and young son. He is an accomplished violinist and can speak both Cantonese and Mandarin.
